Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers among both men and women, and although a number of natural remedies have been linked to the prevention of this disease, government health authorities are quick to mention that not enough research has been done to warrant prescribing them.
Often, patients are unaware of the early signs of this cancer type, and when is diagnosed (usually with colonoscopy), it is well-advanced and leaves the patients with only a few options.
When symptoms appear, they’ll likely vary, depending on cancer’s size and location in your large intestine.
When to see a doctor?
If you notice any symptoms of colon cancer, such as blood in your stool or a persistent change in bowel habits, make an appointment with your doctor.
Talk to your doctor about when you should begin screening for colon cancer. Guidelines generally recommend that colon cancer screenings begin at age 50. Your doctor may recommend more frequent or earlier screening if you have other risk factors, such as a family history of the disease.
Although this type of cancer is responsible for thousands of deaths every year, it is highly treatable if caught early.
Yet, there are natural ways to prevent colon cancer, which include maintaining a healthy weight, consuming a diet rich in fiber and antioxidants, and keeping your body well hydrated.
Coconut oil destroys 93% of colon cancer cells in just 2 days
According to a newly published study, there is an active anticancer component in coconut oil that constitutes 50 percent of its makeup. It’s called lauric acid, and in a study published in the journal Cancer Research, researchers at the University of Adelaide discovered this component completely exterminated more than 90 percent of colon cancer cells after just two days of treatment in a colon cancer cell line (CRC) in vitro.
The study also reports/cites studies that postulate and indeed support the position that lauric acid can induce cancer cell death both in vitro and in vivo.
The lauric acid killed cancer cells in two different ways. At first, lauric acid actually ‘poisoned’ cancer cells and unleashed tremendous oxidative stress, while at the same time reducing glutathione levels.
To be fair, this experiment was performed in vitro (it was performed on cells outside of their normal biological system), which may cause some to discount the findings. That being said, it is still promising and worth taking a serious look at.
More on the health benefits of coconut oil
While new studies are just discovering coconut oil full antioxidant potential, its many health benefits have already been well established through medical research. Coconut oil naturally kills many viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. Also, it supports digestion and liver metabolism, reduces inflammation, and promotes healthier skin and faster wound healing when applied topically.
It is great for heart health, lower LDL while raising HDL cholesterol levels to improve the overall cholesterol ratio. Coconut oil is now being used in clinical trials for improving cholesterol in patients with chronic heart disease, in fighting Alzheimer’s, and for improving blood sugar and blood pressure levels.
